Cut and Fill Calculator

Enter existing ground and design elevations by station. CivilCalc calculates cut volume, fill volume, net earthwork and approximate loose haul volume using the Average End Area method.

Station (m)Existing elev.Design elev.Formation widthStatus
Total cut0.00 m³
Total fill0.00 m³
Net volume (Cut − Fill)0.00 m³
Loose haul volume0.00 m³
Total alignment length0.00 m
Section area: A = b·h + m·h². Volume: V = L·(A₁+A₂)/2. A zero-depth point is interpolated where the alignment changes between cut and fill.

For preliminary quantity checks. Final earthwork quantities should use actual cross-section geometry and project-specific geotechnical assumptions.

How the calculation works

Positive existing-minus-design elevation is treated as cut and a negative difference as fill. For regular trapezoidal sections, CivilCalc estimates the section area from formation width, depth and side slope, then applies the Average End Area method between consecutive stations.
